Waubonsee Auto Body Students Finish Fourth in Nation

When an academic program produces one student who finishes among the top five in the nation, it’s impressive. When a program produces two in the same year, it’s remarkable.

That’s exactly what Waubonsee Community College’s Auto Body Repair Program has done as students Daniel Dwyer and Jordan Herrera each earned a fourth place finish in their respective categories at the 51st annual National Leadership and Skills Conference late last month.

Dwyer, of St. Charles, competed in the collision repair technology category, while Herrera, of Marengo, took on tasks in the automotive refinishing technology category.

Those two categories were swept by Waubonsee students at the Illinois state contest in April, with Dwyer and Herrera taking the top spots.

SkillsUSA is a national nonprofit organization serving teachers and high school and college students who are preparing for careers in trade, technical and skilled service occupations.
