Waubonsee Offers Free Office Software Certificate

Community residents can learn popular Microsoft Office software and earn college credit tuition-free, thanks to a new grant-funded program at Waubonsee Community College.

To qualify, students must take the appropriate placements tests. Preference will be given to those individuals with no prior college credit. They must also attend a free information session from 9 to 10:30 a.m. on Monday, Aug. 3 or Tuesday, Aug. 4. The Aug. 3 session will take place in room 323 of the college’s downtown Aurora Campus at 18 S. River St. The Aug. 4 session will take place in room 120 of the Academic and Professional Center on the north side of the Sugar Grove Campus, Route 47 at Waubonsee Drive.

Once enrolled in the program, students can attend daytime classes at either the downtown Aurora or Sugar Grove Campus, and in six months, they’ll learn popular programs like Microsoft Word, Excel, Access and PowerPoint, eventually earning the college’s Office Software Specialist Certificate of Achievement.

The tuition-free program is primarily funded through a $2.8 Trade Adjustment Assistance Community College and Career Training (TAACCCT) grant.
