Waubonsee Community College received three honors at the Illinois Community College Trustees Association (ICCTA) convention on June 5-6.

Associate Professor of Earth Science/Geology David Voorhees is the co-recipient of the 2015 ICCTA Outstanding Full-Time Faculty Member Award. Voorhees, who has been teaching at Waubonsee since 2002, is very active at the college and in professional associations. He serves as the principal investigator for the college’s National Science Foundation (NSF) STEM grant and just started a three-year term on the NSF’s Advisory Committee for Geosciences.

Dedicated to the art of teaching at the community college level, Voorhees created the GEO2YC group within the National Association of Geoscience Teachers and served as its first president in 2011-2012. Earlier this academic year, he was honored as an American Association for the Advancement of Science Fellow.

Also recognized by the ICCTA were Waubonsee President Dr. Christine Sobek, who received her second Trustee Education Award for participating in 30 or more ICCTA seminars, and Waubonsee Board Member James Michels, who was honored for his 25 years of service.
