Waubonsee's Jouris named NJCAA Player of the Week
Jouris leads Chiefs into championship round
Waubonsee Community College’s Jake Jouris was selected as the NJCAA Division III Baseball Player of the Week for the second week of May. The DeKalb High School graduate extended his current hitting streak to 12 games by going 8 for 11 (.727) in the Chiefs’ three Region IV Tournament victories. The 6’4” sophomore first baseman also drilled a double, a triple, drove in four runs, drew three walks and stole a base in helping propel Waubonsee into this weekend’s championship round of the tournament.
On the season Jouris is batting .364 with a team-leading 44 runs driven in for the Chiefs (34-21), ranked sixth nationally in the latest NJCAA Division III poll. Jouris also has scored 43 runs, ripped seven doubles, three triples and five homers in 44 games played. The right-handed hitter leads the team with a .581 slugging percentage and has also compiled a .461 on-base percentage. Defensively, Jouris has posted a .974 fielding percentage making 307 putouts, 27 assists and nine errors thus far on the season.
The top-seeded Chiefs host second-seeded Harper College in a best-of-three series beginning on Friday, May 17 at 2:00 p.m. Game two is set for noon on Saturday in Sugar Grove, while a third game will be played at noon on Sunday if necessary. The winner advances to the 2013 NJCAA Division III World Series in Tyler, Texas beginning May 25.
