Waubonsee Students Named to State Academic Team

Waubonsee Community College students Lizbeth Camacho, of Oswego, and KC Vogt, of Aurora, have been chosen to represent the college on the All-Illinois Academic Team. Sponsored by the Illinois Community College Board, the Illinois Council of Community College Presidents and Phi Theta Kappa (PTK), the international honor society of two-year colleges, the academic team is comprised of students from each of the state's community colleges, who are selected based on academic performance and service to their colleges and communities.

During her two years at Waubonsee, Camacho has been highly active on and off campus. After participating in the Latinos Unidos club and serving as a Student Senator last year, she was elected Student Senate President this year. She was inducted into the Phi Theta Kappa International Honor Society thanks in large part to her perfect 4.0 grade-point average, which she has maintained while working at Portillo's and volunteering at the Tillers Nursing Home. After earning her Associate in Science degree from Waubonsee this spring, Camacho plans to study nursing at Aurora University.

Vogt is currently serving as Waubonsee's student trustee and as the chair of the Illinois Community College Board's Student Advisory Committee (ICCB-SAC). A member of Phi Theta Kappa, Vogt maintains a perfect 4.0 GPA as a political science major.
