Waubonsee has once again earned the Tree Campus USA designation.

For the third year in a row, Waubonsee Community College has earned Tree Campus USA recognition for its dedication to campus forestry management and environmental stewardship.

Given by the Arbor Day Foundation, this designation is based on five core standards of tree care and community engagement, which include: establishment of a campus tree advisory committee; evidence of a campus tree-care plan; verification of dedicated annual expenditures on the campus tree-care plan; involvement in an Arbor Day observance; and the institution of a service-learning project aimed at engaging the student body.

In honor of Arbor Day, the college planted a ginko tree on the Sugar Grove Campus this past April, and over the past several years, students have used handheld global positioning system (GPS) data collection devices to help create a campus tree inventory as part of the college’s ongoing service-learning project.
