Waubonsee Events Offer Financial Aid Help

Over the next month, Waubonsee Community College will host three free events designed to help students apply for financial aid for the 2013-2014 academic year.

Waubonsee will participate in the national College Goal Sunday initiative with an open house event from 9 a.m. - 1 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 9, in the Academic and Professional Center on the college’s Sugar Grove Campus, Route 47 at Waubonsee Drive. At this event, students and their families can attend informative sessions on such topics as financial aid 101, successful scholarship searches and the steps to take after completing the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA).

Financial aid staff members will also be on hand to walk students through the online FAFSA process. Electronic FAFSA filing will be the focus of the college’s two FAFSA Fairs, which will take place from noon to 2 p.m. on Monday, Jan. 28 at Sugar Grove and from 4 to 6 p.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 20 at the Aurora Campus, 18 S. River St.

Event attendees need to bring their social security number and 2012 tax information so that their FAFSA can be filed.
