Waubonsee Literacy Project Receives Grant From Dollar General

Waubonsee Community College’s Adult Literacy Project recently received a $4,359 grant from the Dollar General Literacy Foundation. The money will be used to purchase toolkits for the program’s volunteer tutors, who assist adult students one-on-one in both reading and writing.

“We appreciate Dollar General’s support in helping the Adult Literacy Project provide services to the adult learners in our community,” said Sherry Woodward, Manager of the Adult Literacy Project.

Founded in 1985, Waubonsee’s Adult Literacy Project trains volunteers to provide customized English language tutoring in both reading and writing to adults who want to improve their skills or learn English as a Second Language. Volunteers may work one-on-one with a student; tutor as a volunteer aide in a Waubonsee Adult Education classroom; or lead a conversation, writing, reading or math group. For more information, visit
