More Than 1,000 Graduates Receive Degrees from Waubonsee
Waubonsee Community College awarded degrees to 1,049 graduates at its 2012 commencement ceremony on Thursday, May 17. The class of 2012 is the college’s largest ever and an increase of more than 20 percent compared to last year.
The degrees awarded include 740 transfer-oriented associate degrees, 265 Associate in Applied Science degrees (in 35 different career areas) and 44 Associate in General Studies degrees.
Delivering the commencement address was Dr. Walter Bumphus, president and CEO of the American Association of Community Colleges.
“In this new world and global economy, you have to do something that is irreplaceable and has special value,” Bumphus said. “The jobs available will require creativity, imagination, and your own unique brainpower and passion. These jobs can only be done by people following their dreams.”
Since its first graduating class in 1968, Waubonsee has conferred 18,499 degrees to local students.
