Pair of Chiefs headed to NJCAA Finals

Carey, Carbajal headed to National Tournament

Waubonsee Community College wrestlers Dan Carey and Javier Carbajal both recently qualified to compete in the 2012 NJCAA National Wrestling Championships this coming weekend in Rochester, Minnesota. The Chiefs’ grapplers are set to take the mat this Friday and Saturday, Feb. 24 and 25, at the UCR Regional Sports Center.  

Carey, a 197-lb.sophomore from Aurora West High School will face Jamestown (NY) Community College’s Chris Woods in his opening match. The winner will square off against Iowa Lakes Community College’s Jim Doyle, ranked fifth nationally in the NJCAA’s 197-pound weight class.  

Carbajal, a 125-lb. sophomore from South Dade High School in Homestead, Fla. is set to battle Matthew Flynn from Thaddeus Stevens (PA) College of Technology in his first match. The winner will likely have to compete against Colby (KS) Community College’s Marco Tamayo, ranked second nationally among the NJCAA’s 125-pounders.
