Waubonsee soccer players named ISCC Player of the Week
Waubonsee Community College women’s soccer players Priscilla Diaz and Jessica Alvarez were both recently honored by the Illinois Skyway Collegiate Conference (ISCC). Diaz was named the ISCC’s Women’s Soccer Player of the Week for the week ending Oct. 2. Alvarez was then chosen as the league’s Player of the Week for games played Oct. 3 through Oct. 9.
Diaz, a sophomore defender from Aurora West High School, anchored a Waubonsee defense that posted a shutout against ISCC foe Moraine Valley on Sept. 28. The Lady Chiefs limited the Cyclones to only three shots on goal en route to a 6-0 victory in their lone game of the week. On the season, Diaz has helped the Lady Chiefs record 11 shutouts, equaling the school mark set in 2008 and 2010. Over Waubonsee’s last six matches, the Lady Chiefs have booked six shutouts, outscoring opponents 47-0 and out shooting them an astounding 189-7.
Alvarez, a sophomore midfielder from Oswego East High School, registered 3 goals and 5 assists in the Lady Chiefs three matches during the week. She scored in each contest and was credited with four assists in Waubonsee’s lopsided 12-0 victory over Daley College on Oct. 8. On the season Alvarez has 7 goals and a team-leading 14 assists, one shy of Becky Bartos’ school-record for assists set just last year. Nationally, Alvarez is tied for ninth in assists among NJCAA Division I players.
