CLEP Testing

Get college credit while saving time and money with CLEP tests.

Through the College Level Examination Program (CLEP), you can earn credit for a class without taking it. Just demonstrate your knowledge by doing well on a CLEP test and gain college credit at one of more than 2,900 colleges and universities around the nation.

Preparing for CLEP Exams
If you truly excel in a particular subject or have professional experience in a certain field, you may want to check out the sample tests and study guides available at The College Board's CLEP website. There are also study guides available at Waubonsee's Todd Library and bookstore.

Exams Offered at Waubonsee
The College Board offers 33 different CLEP exams. The Sugar Grove Campus location of Waubonsee's Learning Assessment and Testing Services administers these exams.

Taking a CLEP Test
CLEP tests can only be taken by appointment. Prior to your appointment, you must visit the CLEP website to create an account.

Visit https://clepportal.collegeboard.org/myaccount to create your CLEP account. CLEP currently charges $80 per exam.

Registering for an exam provides you with a payment receipt and an Admission Ticket, but you must contact the Learning Assessment and Testing Services center to schedule the date and time you wish to take the test. You may visit the Learning Assessment and Testing Services center on the second floor of the Student Center at the Sugar Grove Campus or call (630) 466-5700 to secure your appointment. You will be asked for your TICKET ID number when you make your appointment. Official "Information for Test-Taker" bulletins are available at the Learning Assessment and Testing Services centers at all campuses.

Test takers for CLEP are required to present one valid form of identification along with their Admission Ticket at their CLEP appointment. A non-refundable fee of $20 will be charged by WCC for each exam appointment.

No more than two CLEP tests may be taken in one day. The maximum allowable number of credits earned by CLEP at WCC is 30 credit hours. All funded military candidates must present a current military ID and a second form of government-issued photo ID.

Getting CLEP Credit
When registering online for the CLEP test, you will be asked where you would like your scores sent. You can then follow up with your college's registration department to make sure credit is recorded.

If you are attending Waubonsee, you should call Registration and Records at 630-466-2370 two to three weeks after testing to see if your scores have been received. You will then have to visit the office to complete an 'Application for Credit by CLEP' form. A recording fee of $10 per credit hour is charged.
