CLEP Testing
Get college credit while saving time and money with CLEP tests.
Through the College Level Examination Program (CLEP), you can earn credit for a class without taking it. Just demonstrate your knowledge by doing well on a CLEP test and gain college credit at one of more than 2,900 colleges and universities around the nation.
Preparing for CLEP Exams
If you truly excel in a particular subject or have professional experience in a certain field, you may want to check out the sample tests and study guides available at The College Board's CLEP website. There are also study guides available at Waubonsee's Todd Library and bookstore.
Exams Offered at Waubonsee
The College Board offers 34 different CLEP exams. The Sugar Grove Campus location of Waubonsee's Center for Learning Assessment administers 30 of these exams; it does not administer American Literature, Analyzing and Interpreting Literature, or English Literature.
Taking a CLEP Test
CLEP tests can only be taken by appointment. To make an appointment, visit the Sugar Grove location of the Center for Learning Assessment in Room 230 of the Student Center. Here you will fill out the registration form and pay the nonrefundable $20 registration fee. You may reschedule your exam only once per $20 fee. On the day of the test, you will pay a $77 per test fee that must be paid by check or by credit card. We do not accept cash for this fee.
No more than two CLEP tests may be taken in one day and two forms of proper identification must be shown. All funded military candidates must present a current military ID and a second form of government-issued photo ID.
Getting CLEP Credit
When taking the CLEP test, you will be asked where you would like your scores sent. You can then follow up with your college's registration department to make sure credit is recorded.
If you are attending Waubonsee, you will need to complete a request at Registration and Records to get CLEP credit recorded on your transcript. You can submit the paper copy of your results immediately following your exam, or wait two to three weeks for the office to receive your test results electronically. A recording fee of $10 per credit hour is charged.
