When are your classes held?
We have classes scheduled every month. Please check our most current schedule to see which of these courses will fit with your schedule. Remember that classes fill up quickly, so don’t wait too long to enroll. Truck driver training requires a full-time commitment. Classes meet Monday through Friday, from 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. It is important that you be able to attend all hours of every day of class.

How long does it take to complete the class and earn my CDL?
You are required to complete 160 hours of training time. Generally, this takes four weeks for our classes that are held during the day. Evening classes take a little longer, with class time totaling 6.5 weeks.

Do you offer evening classes?
We offer evening classes in the summer, when the visibility is good for driving and working in the yard. These classes usually begin in June and July and run from 5:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. each day.

What are the costs involved?
Tuition for the course is $3,985. This amount must be paid in full at the time of registration. You will also need to have a drug screen and a physical. Together, the rate for these tests is $83. It costs $12 to get your driving record abstract from the State of Illinois and $50 for CDL testing, which is due the first week of class. Optional Hazmat certification is $89.25.

How many students will be in my class?
We pride ourselves on keeping the class size small, so that students can get a lot of individual attention. The typical class will have a maximum of six students.

Can I succeed if English is my second language?
It is important that you be able to read and write English because the CDL test is given only in English.

Is funding or financial assistance available?
There may be funding available to help you pay for this program. If you are unemployed, underemployed, or feel that your current job does not hold enough challenge for you, you can attend a presentation hosted by the Kane County Department of Employment & Education (KCDEE) to learn more about funding and services that may be available to help you.

Orientation sessions are held at the following KCDEE locations:

Elgin – Monday and Thursday at 1:30 p.m.
North Aurora – Monday at 1:30 p.m. and Thursday at 10 a.m.
DeKalb – every other Thursday from 2 – 4 p.m.

At times, we may have grant funding or scholarship funding available. Contact the college to see if you can qualify for these funds.

Will there be job opportunities for me after I complete this course?
While we cannot guarantee job placement, we work very closely with employers and our students to facilitate the hiring process and we are very proud of our ability to place graduates. You will fill out applications during class and we have several employers who come to our classroom to make presentations and meet our students. Be advised that most entry-level trucking jobs require over-the-road travel.
