"Living the Dream"

Submitted on Tuesday, September 6, 2016

I thought there had to be some kind of catch. There was no way someone could go to college and get paid to go… along with free lunch, a laptop, AND books? MADNESS! That is every college student’s dream! It seemed too good to be true. But it turned out the Dunham Fund Quick Path Program is a reality, and when I caught drift of it, I knew I wanted to make it my reality. Even though there would be a lot of sacrifices I would have to make; going to school over summer, long classes, etc.… I knew it was going to be worth it in the end. I was going to go to Waubonsee anyway, but when I read that the program could give me my Associates Degree in just twelve months, I knew I had to apply. Getting my two-year degree faster meant I could move on the next stage of my life faster; transferring to a four-year college and finally being on my own. With hopes of moving on to UW Madison after Waubonsee, it was a huge relief for my parents when they found out I was accepted into this program. It meant not having to be burdened with the high costs of college for two school years; every parent’s dream. Being part of this program will leave a lasting impression on me and I know I will come out of it ready to take on the world and all my goals, never forgetting where I started. I know that years from now I will look back on this experience and be incredibly grateful for everyone, including myself, that gave me the chance to be part of this life-changing program.
