EMT-B Refresher Training (EMT010)

This course emphasizes emergency medical care skills and introduces the EMT-B to the concept of an assessment approach to emergency medical care outside the hospital environment according to the 1995 EMT-Basic curriculum for presently licensed EMT-Bs. The following revisions are included: scene size-up/ assessment, initial assessment, focused history and physical exam-trauma, focused history and physical exam- medical, detailed physical exam, ongoing assessment baseline vitals and sample history. The course emphasizes the importance of medical direction for such activities as patient-assisted medication use, carrying medications, restraining difficult patients, transporting against patient wishes, and ALS versus BLS transport protocols. The course meets the Illinois Department of Transportation (IDOT) requirements for recertification.
Prereq: Current American Heart Association Health Care Provider Course Certification prior to first class session.
