Foundational Texts: New Testament (PHL 230)

This course introduces students to the texts and ideas of the New Testament in their contextual setting. Students examine historical events in the period leading to the emergence of the ministry of John the Baptist and Jesus of Nazareth, the religious and political ideas of the Roman Empire as they relate to the Middle East, the ideas of first century Judaism, the ideas of early Christianity and the social geography of the region.
