Individuals who study within this technical field can pursue a variety of career opportunities. Day-to-day job responsibilities include the application of electrical and mechanical skills for developing, installing, programming and troubleshooting the complex machinery and sensors found in the modern manufacturing environment. Technicians will often work with programmable logic controllers (PLCs), hydraulic and penumatic control systems, actuator and sensor systems, and robotics. Automation occurs in a variety of industries including building maintenance, packaging, machine tool, automotive and allied fields.
