Every car eventually stops running, but that doesn't mean it's worthless. Parts can be sold for reuse in other vehicles or simply recycled for other purposes. In fact, it's estimated that roughly 85 percent of a car can be repurposed or recycled, making it the #1 most recycled consumer product in the world.

Of course, all of this repurposing and recycling needs to be done in a way that is safe for people and the environment, and that's where automotive recycling professionals come in. This growing field offers a variety of job opportunities for all different skill sets — from mastering the inventory software used to developing new, more efficient equipment to actually doing the fluid extraction and dismantling. Work at a recycling facility or get licensed to run your own small business.

Whichever route you want to take, Waubonsee's one-of-a-kind automotive recycling course/certificate program is a great springboard into the industry.
