Leslie Ferguson, Head Coach

Leslie Ferguson has steadily built the Lady Chiefs’ program into a perennial power over the last seven years. Under her direction Waubonsee has won the Illinois Skyway Collegiate Conference (ISCC) and the Region IV Championship twice in the last three years. Last year’s record-setting squad dominated ISCC foes, outscoring them 33-1. Ferguson’s crew set or tied 23 team records including most wins (18), most goals (112), most assists (91), most shots on goal (447) and most shutouts (11) in a season. As a matter-of-fact, with Ferguson’s guidance the Lady Chiefs have gone 54-15-5 overall since midway through the 2007 season.

Coach Ferguson is a 1996 graduate of Jacobs High School in Algonquin, where she played on the varsity all four years as a forward. A multi-sport athlete, Ferguson also played basketball and volleyball during her prep career. She returned to her alma mater to lead the freshman girls’ soccer team in 2004 and the junior varsity in 2005. She also served as the assistant varsity coach at South Elgin High School in 2007 and 2008.

Ferguson played soccer at Judson College in Elgin, where she still holds several career school records. She helped lead the Eagles to a fifth place finish at the 1997 National Christian College Athletic Association (NCCAA) Finals. She was named to the Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference (CCAC) All-Conference, North Central All-Region and was an Honorable Mention NCCAA All-American that year. She was one of Judson’s co-captains in 1999, when the team placed eighth in the nation. She was tabbed All-Conference and Honorable Mention All-American, while also being named the Eagles Offensive Player of the Year and team MVP in 1999.

Coach Ferguson earned her degree in sports management from Judson in 2000 and a Physical Education K-12 teaching certificate in 2007. She holds a state "D" license through the United States Soccer Federation as well. Ferguson resides in Huntley and also serves as the trainer for the hometown Heat United Soccer Club.

Brad Schlemmer, Assistant Coach

Brad Schlemmer enters his third season with Waubonsee's coaching staff as the women’s soccer assistant. He brings over 25 years of soccer playing, teaching and coaching experience to the Lady Chiefs' sidelines.

Schlemmer played three years on the varsity at Glen Oak High School in Canton, Ohio. He was a co-captain his senior year and named the Golden Eagles' Offensive Player of the Year and earned the school's Outstanding Senior Award. During his prep career Schlemmer gained a wealth of additional soccer experience competing with the Akron Canton Premier, traveling to play in numerous out-of-state tournaments and Denmark. He went on to play three years at Walsh University, an NAIA affiliate in Ohio.

Coach Schlemmer returned to his high school alma mater as the boy's varsity assistant and served in the same capacity at Perry High School in Massillon, Ohio, the following year. Away from the soccer field Schlemmer is an Account Executive in the Merchant Services Department for Citibank.

Michael Bastida, Volunteer Assistant Coach

Michael Bastida begins his sixth season assisting the women's soccer team, after holding the same position with the men's program in 2005. A former defensive standout for the Chiefs, Bastida brings a player's perspective, dedicated work ethic and a hands-on coaching approach to Waubonsee's sidelines.

Bastida is a 2002 graduate of Oswego High School, where he served as a captain for the varsity soccer squad for three years. He earned All-Suburban Prairie Conference honors his junior and senior seasons for the Panthers. Bastida then bounced back from a major knee injury to earn the Chiefs' most valuable player award as a freshman. The defender was named first team All-Skyway and second team All-Region. As a sophomore, Bastida was again named All-Skyway and second team All-Region IV.

Coach Bastida has also played two summers with the Atlas Pro Team in Mexico and has served as a trainer for PlayUSA Soccer in Aurora. A newlywed, Bastida and former Chiefs' player Hannah Alvis were married this past July. He is currently working as a Physical Therapist Technician and the Front Office Coordinator for Accelerated Rehab in Yorkville.
