The Waubonsee cheerleading team was established in 2011. The squad performs at home basketball games, pep rallies and special events throughout the school year. Tryouts are held each year in the fall and the team practices throughout the year. Team members are required to possess a minimum level of acrobatic skills and other criteria. The team also participates in regional cheerleading competitions when possible.
In January 2012 Waubonsee’s cheerleaders took home three trophies in their first-ever competition at the Champion Spirit Group in Wisconsin Dells, Wisconsin. The Chiefs cheerleaders won an award for choreography, took first-place in the College Division, and grabbed the Grand Champion trophy for best overall squad among 20 participating schools. The 2013-2014 squad also won Elite International Championship sponsored by XtremeSpirit.com
The squad recently participated in the 2015 Swedish Day's Parade in Geneva. They will also be performing at the Sugar Grove Corn Boil (July 24) and Somonauk Summer Fest (July 25), and representing Waubonsee at the Elburn Day's parade and the Maple Park Fun Fest parade in August.
