Women's Basketball at Waubonsee
Competing each winter – late fall through early spring semester – the Waubonsee Chiefs Women's Basketball Team takes to the court for a new season.
In conjunction with the college's Educational Television Department, most weekday home games throughout the season are broadcast locally in the Aurora area on Waubonsee's cable channel and streamed "live" via the link on the Chiefs' Athletic home web page.
The last three season have been unprecedented for Waubonsee's Women's Basketball program. Jim Sury took over the program two years ago from long-time head coach Dana Wagner and has continued the Chiefs' long tradition of success. He guided the team to the program's first ever Region IV title and berth in the NJCAA National Tournament in his debut season. The unranked and unheralded Chiefs grabbed the 2015 Region IV Division II District K title for the first time ever and finished in the top-12 in the nation at the national tournament in Kansas City. Sury followed that up with an almost identical accomplishment last season. Waubonsee went undefeated (14-0) in Illinois Skyway Collegiate Conference (ISCC) play to grab the title for the third time in school history. Sury's crew also set a program record for consecutive wins with 18 and wins in a season with 27. The unranked Chiefs again won the Region IV title and advanced to the national tournament where they finished in the top-12 nationally once more. In 2014, Wagner's last at the helm, Waubonsee captured the ISCC title for the first time since 1993, going undefeated (14-0) in league play for the first time ever. Waubonsee finished as the Region IV runner up going 25-7 overall, including a 13-game winning streak, and the Chiefs were ranked 23rd nationally in the final regular season NJCAA Division II poll.
Waubonsee also offers Men's Basketball.
