Part-Time Benefit Summary

Paid Time Off (PTO)
Regular part-time support staff who work a minimum of 40 hours per pay period will earn PTO benefits after a 90-day waiting period.  Part -time staff are defined as regular part-time support staff positions, not student workers, cadets, employees paid on a stipend ( e.g. coaches), or seasonal or short-term positions, such as summer high school supervisors and clerks, writing sample specialists, etc.  PTO hours are earned at a rate based on the employee’s years of continuous employment with the college.

Direct Deposit
Employees are offered flexibility with direct deposit and may divide their paycheck among multiple accounts.

State Universities Retirement System (SURS)
The college participates in SURS and all employees, except student workers and those employees that are considered temporary or intermittent, are required to contribute 8% of their gross pay. This contribution is a pre-tax deduction. The employer contribution is paid by the state of Illinois. Employees that contribute to SURS do not contribute to the Federal Social Security Program (FICA).

Tax Sheltered Annuity Program (403B)
The college provides all employees the opportunity to participate in a Tax Sheltered Annuity Program.  The college has pre-approved companies from which employees can choose a tax deferred investment plan.  The college does not contribute to these accounts. 

Employee Assistance Plan (EAP)
The college provides access to an EAP for employees and their eligible dependents.  The BalanceWorks program, an integrated employee assistance and work/life program, provides the employee and eligible family members with access to free confidential assistance with everyday work and family issues as well as more challenging personal concerns.  The BalanceWorks program includes:

  • Immediate connection to a counselor 24/7
  • Legal consultation and referral
  • Financial consultation and referral
  • Online resources
  • Child and elder care resource/referral services
  • A personal assistant to help with individual requests on a variety of topics or concerns

Tuition Reimbursement
After two years of continuous employment at the college, a part-time support staff employee is eligible to receive tuition reimbursement for credit courses taken at Waubonsee Community College.  It is expected that the courses will be taken outside the employee’s work schedule.  The employee must be actively employed and work a minimum of twenty hours per week to be eligible.  The courses must be pre-approved by the appropriate vice president with recommendation by the administrative supervisor and must be related to the employee’s job duties and responsibilities.  A grade of “C” or higher must be earned in order to receive tuition reimbursement.  Reimbursement requests must be processed within the same fiscal year in which the coursework was completed.

Staff Development/Wellness Activities
Part-time support staff have the opportunity to participate in training programs offered by the Center for Teaching, Learning and Technology (CTLT) and other training opportunities that may be presented by Emergency Preparedness and Safety, Human Resources, or Information Technology.  Pre-approval from the immediate supervisor must be obtained before attending any training programs.  A variety of training programs are offered on a monthly basis.

Part-time support staff are also invited to participate in the many events and activities that are scheduled throughout the year.  Such events include, but are not limited to:  Wellness/Benefits Fair, Spotlight Sessions, Fitness Walk, flu shots, health screenings, open houses, staff luncheons, and the Waubonsee Educational Office Staff (WEOS).
