Types of Assistance
GRANTS

All course work must pertain to the chosen certificate or degree program. The student may not have previously received a passing grade for any course used. Aid can only apply to one year of remedial course work that is necessary and approved.

Illinois Student Assistant Commission Monetary Award Program (MAP): Covers tuition and certain mandatory fees, based on need, Illinois residency, and enrollment in at least 3 credit hours each semester. To apply, students must complete the FAFSA application form, and list a MAP eligible school as one of their six choices on the FAFSA. Be aware of deadlines for applying: as indicated on the FAFSA form.

Illinois Incentive for Access (IIA):
Awards a grant up to $500 per year, delivered in two disbursements to freshmen students who have a zero expected family contribution. The student must also meet MAP eligibility requirements (see above) and be enrolled in at least 6 credit hours. To apply, students follow the procedures given above for MAP grants.

Federal Pell Grant:
Awards based on need and enrollment. To apply, students must complete the FAFSA application form. Procedures for late applicants and summer disbursements are determined by the Financial Aid Office.

Federal Supplemental Educational Opportunity Grant (FSEOG):
Awards based on need. Due to limited funds, FSEOG awards are given only to those students with the lowest calculated family contribution. Results from the FAFSA application and required documentation are used to determine family contribution. Awards are disbursed in two payments near the middle of each semester.

LOANS

Federal Family Education Loan Programs:

Available to Waubonsee students enrolled in at least 6 credit hours per semester. Loans are made through banks or lending agencies that participate in the student loan program. A list of participating institutions is available in the Financial Aid Office. To apply, a student must file for financial aid, and complete his or her financial aid file. Additional loan paperwork must then be completed. Loan funds are delivered to Waubonsee Community College for disbursement. Enrollment must be confirmed and all outstanding charges must be paid. Your loan may not exceed educational expenses minus financial aid OR the amount recommended by the school (whichever is less). The student will be mailed a check for the remaining funds.

EMPLOYMENT

Federal Work Study:

Provides part-time on-campus employment opportunities based on need as determined by the FAFSA application. Every effort is made to place students in jobs related to their academic fields. Students may work no more than twenty hours per week when classes are in session and no more than forty hours per week during vacation periods when classes are not held. Payment rates normally begin at $8.00 per hour. The total amount earned by students may not exceed their unmet need as determined by the Financial Aid Office.
