Internships.

Internships put students into the professional work world before they have completed their academic qualifications. In selected disciplines, students can earn credit hours by working in a field related to their academic program.

Internships

  • enhance and enrich students' educational experience.
  • are cooperative efforts between businesses and the college.
  • are closely monitored by the student, Waubonsee faculty and the employers.

Both academic requirements and job performance are essential elements of the internship. Faculty, the employer and the student must work as a team to advance the educational experience. On-the-job experiences and the learning of additional operational skills complement class instruction. New internships are developed as students, faculty, or local businesses create a demand for them.

An internship allows students to gain practical experience and up to three credit hours in a semester toward an associate in applied science (AAS) degree or occupational certificate. The Social Science Internship can apply towards the AA/AS degree. Internship credit classes are listed in the catalog and semester schedules in several disciplines. Students commit to working 80 hours in the internship position for every hour of credit earned. Internships currently in the curriculum include:
