Campus Projects and Initiatives

Through the Center for Sustainability at Waubonsee Community College, everyone has the opportunity to get involved on campus and in the community.

Gold Level Logo
In the summer of 2012, Waubonsee achieved gold level status in the Illinois Campus Sustainability Compact.

Alternative Energy and Natural Resources
To help teach students in our Renewable Energy Technologies certificate programs and to help maintain a cleaner environment, the college's Sugar Grove Campus has a geothermal system, a photovoltaic array (solar panels) and a wind turbine. While we use some natural resources to help power the curriculum and our college, we use others to help beautify our campuses, such as the prized oak trees that have helped us earn Tree Campus USA status.

Reducing Our Footprint
Waubonsee is proud of our campus recycling programs, and we're currently working hard to encourage carpooling and other alternative transportation.

Events
In partnership with Student Activities, The Center for Sustainability annually hosts campus events for America Recycles Day in November and Earth Day in April. Check the college-wide calendar for more information. You can also work with us to implement your own event. Contact the Center for Sustainability for more information.
