When/Where are the Commencement ceremonies?
The ceremony is held once a year in May at the Sugar Grove Field House.
Saturday, May 14, 2016, 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. ceremonies
Who can participate in Commencement?
All students who earned an associate degree in the previous December and are candidates for May and August will be invited to participate. May and August candidates must have an Intent to Graduate form submitted by February 15. Students who apply after February 15 may still be able to walk, but preference will be given to those who applied before the deadline.
When will Commencement participation forms be available?
All eligible graduates and candidates will be sent a Commencement Ceremony Confirmation and Order Form beginning March 1 to their home address. If forms have not been received by March 15, requests can be sent to email@example.com.
Is there a cost to participate in Commencement?
Graduates and candidates will purchase a cap, gown and tassel to participate in the ceremony. There is no other cost. The cap, gown and tassel will be yours to keep.
After I sign up - what's next?
Candidates who have signed up to participate in Commencement will be sent a confirmation letter with additional information and invitations at the end of April.
How do I know which ceremony I will attend?
Attendance at each ceremony will be determined on a first-come, first-served basis. The first 125 students to return their form will be given their preference of time. After that, we will try to honor your request.
Where do I pick up my cap, gown and tassel?
The Commencement Expo will be Tuesday, May 10, 9:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. Additional information will be sent to those who sign up.
How many guests may I invite and do they need tickets?
For guests to attend Commencement, they must have a ticket. In 2016, each student will receive four (4) guest tickets. Additional overflow seating will be available in the APC. Students who would like to request additional tickets will receive information in their confirmation mailing.
The Commencement ceremony will be broadcast LIVE on the college website and the Waubonsee Educational Channel for family and friends who cannot attend the ceremony. It will also be rebroadcast several times following the ceremony and a schedule will be provided in the participants' packets.What color are the cap, gown and tassel?
Cap and gowns are coronet gray and tassels are red and yellow.
If the graduate or candidate is eligible for an honors tassel, it will be gold.
What if I am a member of an honor society?
Members of Alpha Beta Gamma, Alpha Delta Nu, Alpha Sigma Lambda, Mu Alpha Theta, National Technical, National Society for Leadership and Success, Phi Theta Kappa, Psi Beta, SALUTE, and Sigma Chi Eta: you are allowed to wear honor society cords at Commencement. Cords may be purchased at the Student Life office, Student Center Room 126.
What if I need accommodations?
If you need a sign language interpreter or an accommodation for this event, please contact Sarah Kocunik, at (630) 466-7900, ext. 2933 or firstname.lastname@example.org. A minimum of 2 weeks’ notice is requested.
Can pictures be taken at Commencement?
The college has made arrangements for two photographers at the Commencement ceremonies. One will record the moment you are awarded your diploma and proofs will be sent via email or postal mail with information about ordering. A second photographer will be available the day of Commencement to take portraits. Information and order forms will be sent with the participants’ packets. Families are encouraged to remain in their seats, enjoy the ceremony and limit picture taking to before or after the ceremony.
What if I don’t participate in Commencement?
All graduates will be mailed a diploma within six (6) weeks of the end of the semester.
You may order just a souvenir tassel on the Commencement Ceremony Confirmation and Order Form. The tassels will be mailed to your home after the Commencement ceremony.
