Celebrating 50 Years

As Waubonsee celebrates its “Proud Past, Bold Future” this year, now is a great time to connect — or re-connect — with your community college. Learn more about our history, attend an event, share your Waubonsee story or serve your community.

Waubonsee was established in August 1966 when the electorate of 12 school districts in most of Kane and portions of Kendall, DeKalb, LaSalle and Will counties voted to establish Community College District 516. That means just five decades ago, the first of now more than 290,000 students made the choice to begin shaping their futures at Waubonsee.

50 Hours of Caring

Waubonsee faculty, staff, administrators and students are challenged to individually - or as a team of no more than five members - complete 50 hours of community service between now and May 2017. The volunteer or community service work you do need not be within the district’s boundaries and may include volunteer work that you have done in the past and continue to do currently. This caring work need not be connected to your educational or academic profession.

50 Hours of Caring ButtonYour efforts can be tracked through a database available by clicking the "Track Your Efforts" button below. There is also more information about area volunteering resources and guidelines (pdf) for this initiative. Participants can track any community service that they are not being paid to do, and that is outside of an individual’s normal work duties.

Track Your Efforts

We encourage all participants to pick up a 50 Hours of Caring button from various campus locations to wear while out volunteering in our communities.

Volunteer efforts will be recognized during a celebration in May 2017.

As you participate in our communities, we ask that you wear a button and also use #50hrsofcaring on social media. Giving back to our communities is a great way to celebrate our partnerships and support over the years, so get started today!

For questions or more information, contact 50HrsofCaring@waubonsee.edu.

The 50 Hours of Caring initiative ends on May 1 and will be celebrated with a special event on May 4, 2017.
