- Dr. Deborah Lovingood, Executive Vice President of Educational Affairs/Chief Learning Officer

The ceremonial groundbreaking ceremony was held at North Island Center's Copley Theater in downtown Aurora on Jan. 30, 2009. The outline of the building as seen from Galena Boulevard, looking toward River Street. The first-floor gathering space outside the library has proven popular with students. The 132,000-square-foot building spans an entire block, bounded by Down Place to the south, Galena Boulevard to the north, River Street to the west and the Fox River to the east. The Aurora Downtown Campus project also included the completion of an upper River Walk path. The building was designed to both blend in with and help revitalize Aurora's historic downtown.
