The Waubonsee Community College Board of Trustees has selected the Chicago firm of Perkins and Will as the college's architect for the new student center and the new general classroom and training building to be built on the Sugar Grove campus.
The two buildings are a part of the Waubonsee's 2020 College Master Plan. The plan provides a blueprint for the future of the college that outlines the facilities necessary to meet the needs of students now and into the future. The college expects its enrollment to grow from the current 24,400 students to more than 34,000 over the next 15 years.
The 72,000 square-foot student center, to be located on the central portion of the campus, will house the college's services to students such as registration, academic counseling, food service, recruitment and retention, student activities, career services, financial aid, assessment, and other support functions in a one-stop facility. The projected cost for the student center is $12 million, with groundbreaking scheduled for May of 2005.
The general classroom and training building will be located on the north side of the campus. The 58,000 square-foot facility will provide expanded space for general classrooms and dedicated spaces for corporate and community training. The building is expected to cost $9.4 million, with groundbreaking projected for November 2005.
